Born in London, England to a wizard mother and a fae father. They never married; his father was called back to the Seelie Court when Edgar was still a boy, and he was primarily raised by his mother.
As a young man, Edgar was a talented wizard but an inveterate troublemaker, known for selling illegal glamours and magic meant to spy on others. He was finally brought in by an agent of the London Conclave, who offered him a job. Edgar accepted.
Although he rose high in the ranks of the Conclave as an Inquisitor, his muddied heritage was always a source of friction for him. Wizards operate on a sliding scale of humanity, with “pure” human wizards at the top and half-fae wizards at the bottom. Most pure wizards have some kind of demonic heritage, and many half-demon wizards can pass for human. Half-fae always have some kind of inhuman mark, and are more bound by the rules of the Seelie Court than those of the Conclave, which makes them “disloyal” by default. Edgar’s wizard blood made him a reject of the Seelie Court and his fae blood made him a reject of the Conclave.
Fed up with politics, Edgar either quit or was ousted out, and crossed the ocean to the city, where he became a private detective. Early on in his career, he was of great help to then-Beta werewolf Victor Castle, and the two struck up a solid friendship.
Edgar has been active in the city for 20 years.
